THE FARM
The Merryanbone Merino and Poll Merino
stud is operated by John and Elaine McLaughlin and their son
Shane on 10,700 ha located 43 km north of Nyngan and 50 km west
of Warren. Long renowned for its beautifully woolled sheep with
long-stapled, bright-coloured fleeces, Merryanbone runs 13,000
to 14,000 stud sheep and sells more than 700 rams a year to
a widespread clientele in New South Wales, Queensland, India
and Argentina. The stud was-founded in 1925 by John's father,
the late James Andrew McLaughlin. James Mclaughlin's dedication
to quality was rewarded when in 1936, he started entering sheep
in shows and had immediate success by showing the grand champion
Merino ram of the Nyngan show.
This tireless pursuit of quality was
adopted by his sons, and over the years the stud has won many
awards, including the prestigious Macquarie Merino Field Days
Land Newspaper Ewe of the Year Award - three times.
The same attitude has been applied
to the family's recent diversification into a vineyard.
